Early Life

Michael Steven Buble was born September 9, 1975 in Burnaby, British Columbia. His father, Lewis, was often out at sea, and thus his mother Amber and grandfather Demetrio Santanga were his, and his sisters' (Crystal and Brandee) primary caregivers. Santanga had a huge collection of old records of big band favorites such as Ella Fitzgerald, Frank Sinatra, Stevie Wonder, and Tony Bennett, which he and Michael would listen to together frequently. It was because of these that Michael decided he wanted to become a singer, to follow in the footsteps of the greats.

With encouragement from his grandfather, he entered and won a local talent contest. The organizer, Beverly Delich, however, discovered that he was only 17, one year younger than the requirement, and disqualified him. However, she directed him toward the British Columbia Youth Talent Search, and using his grandfather's favorite tunes, he won. This was the start of a great career for Michael Buble.
